Other Areas of ECDC at Saint Mary’s:
Hallway and Lockers : All of our activity rooms open into the hallway, leading to the playground. The lockers located in the hallway are used to hold special things from home, artwork headed home and messages for parents. The lockers serve as a special bridge from home to school. Each child’s picture, located on the front of the locker, assists the child in finding his/her locker. The book shelves across from the office house a lending library for children and parents. Children borrow books to take home, using an honor system. Books and pamphlets, which support the important job of parenting, are available for families.
Through the Double Doors : ECDC-SMC shares Havican Hall with the Saint Mary’s College Nursing Department – a great neighbor to have close by. The ECDC-SMC gross motor room is located in the Nursing Department through the double doors as well as our classroom for sing-alongs and meeting rooms for parent meetings, parent conferences and teacher meetings. The nursing students are involved in the ECDC program through their pediatrics coursework and community nursing coursework.
Gross Motor Room : This room is wonderful, especially on those cold and/or wet inclement weather days, when our children can’t play outside. Our gross motor room provides our children with space to move, dance, bounce, and catch balls, walk on balance beams, use the rocking boat, climb on tumbling mats, crawl through tunnels, play parachute games and bean bag toss.
Playground : The playground is divided into two sections – the pavement area and pea gravel area. The pavement includes bikes, a drive-through playhouse, balls, sand table, musical instruments to play and books. The pea gravel includes a climbing structure, sand pit, and tire swing. Children enjoy gardening each summer growing strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, herbs and flowers in their own ECDC-SMC garden.
